Beaumont Tiles

Consolidating fragmented corporate infrastructure into an Adelaide data centre and deploying independent internet and phone systems to franchise stores — for one of Australia's best-known tile and bathroomware retailers.

The company

Beaumont Tiles is one of Australia's best-known tile and bathroomware retailers. Founded in Adelaide in the 1960s with a single showroom on Grote Street, the business has grown to a national network of more than 115 showrooms, studios, clearance centres and trade centres across the country — a mix of corporate-owned and franchise locations.

Corporate headquarters and the central IT environment that supports the entire national operation are based in Adelaide.

The problem

Beaumont Tiles' corporate IT environment had evolved over time into a fragmented mix of platforms that was becoming increasingly difficult to manage, and two converging events forced the issue.

Fragmented infrastructure

Corporate systems were spread across three separate environments: on-premise servers at the head office, workloads hosted in Telstra CSX (Telstra's co-location and managed hosting platform), and some services in Azure. Each environment had its own management overhead, its own connectivity requirements, and its own limitations. There was no single, consolidated platform.

Then Telstra announced the decommissioning of CSX, which meant the infrastructure hosted there needed a new home — and quickly. At the same time, an office relocation meant the on-premise server infrastructure at the old head office also needed to move. Rather than simply relocating fragmented systems to another set of fragmented locations, Beaumont Tiles saw an opportunity to consolidate everything into one place.

Franchise connectivity

Separately, a number of franchise locations across Victoria and South Australia were relying on internet and phone services managed centrally through corporate Vocus accounts. This created a dependency on head office for what should be locally managed services, and made it difficult for franchise operators to have visibility and control over their own connectivity and communications.

What we did

Data centre co-location

Caznet provided data centre co-location space in Adelaide, enabling Beaumont Tiles to deploy a consolidated infrastructure cluster in a secure, enterprise-grade environment. Workloads previously split between the on-premise server room, Telstra CSX and Azure were brought together into a single physical location — simplifying management, improving reliability, and eliminating the dependency on a platform that was being decommissioned.

The data centre environment was integrated into Beaumont Tiles' existing Vocus MPLS network as a core site, meaning all 115+ retail locations across Australia connect into the data centre just as they previously connected to the head office and Telstra CSX. Vocus maintains their own presence in the same carrier-neutral data centre, making the MPLS integration straightforward — no third-party transit or complex cross-connect arrangements were required.

Enterprise internet and managed firewall

Caznet delivers enterprise fibre internet connectivity to the data centre environment, providing high-speed, low-latency access to cloud services and external platforms.

Caznet also provides ongoing management of Beaumont Tiles' FortiGate firewall cluster in the data centre — maintaining security policies, firmware, and monitoring as part of a managed support arrangement. This gives the Beaumont Tiles IT team confidence that their perimeter security is maintained to a high standard without needing to manage the firewalls in-house.

Franchise internet and phone systems

For eight franchise locations — six in Victoria and two in South Australia — Caznet deployed independent NBN Business Internet and business phone systems.

This transitioned the franchises away from centrally managed corporate telco accounts and onto their own standalone, business-grade services. Each franchise now has its own internet connection and phone system, with direct support from Caznet — giving franchise operators control over their own communications without depending on head office for day-to-day telco management.

The result

  • Consolidated infrastructure — Three fragmented environments (on-premise, Telstra CSX, Azure) brought together into a single Adelaide data centre, simplifying management and improving resilience
  • Telstra CSX exit — Infrastructure successfully migrated out of the decommissioned CSX platform with no disruption to national retail operations
  • Seamless MPLS integration — The data centre operates as a core site within the existing Vocus MPLS network, maintaining connectivity to 115+ stores nationally
  • Managed security — FortiGate firewall cluster managed by Caznet, providing ongoing perimeter security without additional in-house overhead
  • Independent franchise services — Eight franchise stores across Victoria and South Australia now operate with their own business internet and phone systems, reducing reliance on corporate-managed accounts
  • Scalable foundation — The data centre platform can grow with the business, accommodating additional infrastructure, higher bandwidth, and further franchise deployments as needed
